vDisk SaaS runs the management platform in the cloud. Install one proxy service on the teacher PC and manage every computer in the lab from a browser: boot, restore, incremental updates, multiple operating systems per PC, and Windows and Linux side by side. No server, no public IP, a proxy you can restore at any time, and a 1-year minimum term.
Cloud console: https://x.newvhd.com
The on-premises edition means running your own server, database and upgrades. vDisk SaaS moves all of that to the cloud so your school can focus on using the lab.
The teacher PC is the proxy. It handles network boot and stores and distributes systems. No server purchase, no rack, no database or console to install.
The proxy connects out to the cloud, so internet access is all you need. No open ports, no port forwarding, no extra server for callbacks.
Reinstalled the teacher PC? Sign in and choose Replace, and the proxy is restored.
From the office, at home or on the road, sign in to x.newvhd.com to check labs, push systems, power computers on and off, and view screens.
Systems are cached on each student PC and boot locally. Classes continue when the internet is down or the teacher PC is off.
Changes go into a differencing disk, and computers download only what changed. A whole lab can move to a new version in minutes.
Keep separate systems for teaching, exams and competitions. Pick one at boot or set a default. Each restores and updates on its own.
Windows and Linux distributions such as Ubuntu, on x86 and ARM64 hardware, in the same lab and the same console.
No upfront purchase. Pay per computer per year with a 1-year minimum, and add computers when your lab grows.
We maintain and update the cloud platform, so new features are ready when they ship. No server upgrades or database backups for your staff.
Each lab's teacher PC connects to the same account. View and act by school, lab and group in one place.
Installing the proxy also brings the teacher PC under management, so it can be restored and monitored like every other machine.
System images live only on the teacher PC and student PCs. The cloud stores configuration, and every control action is logged.
A step-by-step installer gets you running without an on-site engineer, and remote help is available if you get stuck.
Partners can serve schools under their own domain, product name and logo, so schools see the partner's platform.
No server and no network changes. Start with a teacher PC and an admin account.
To update software later, install it on one computer and confirm the update. The new version is saved to the proxy, and other computers pick it up at their next boot. If the teacher PC is replaced or reinstalled, run the installer again and choose Replace to restore it at any time.
The core capabilities of the on-premises edition are all here: how systems update, how many systems a PC can hold, and how Windows and Linux machines share a lab
The features labs use every day, designed to work without training
Both are the same vDisk cloud desktop and feel the same on student PCs. The difference is where management runs and how you pay.

The requirements, up front, so you can plan with confidence
The on-premises edition needs a management server at your school, with a database and a console that your staff maintains. With vDisk SaaS, the management platform runs in our cloud and we keep it updated. You install one proxy service on the teacher PC and manage everything from a browser at x.newvhd.com. How lab computers boot, restore and run classes is the same in both editions.
Correct. The proxy service runs on the teacher PC in the lab, so the teacher PC is your proxy: it handles network boot for student PCs and stores and distributes system images. The teacher PC itself is also managed, can be restored, and shows up in the cloud console.
No. The proxy service makes an outbound connection to the cloud platform, so all your network needs is internet access. No open ports, no static public IP, and no extra server to receive callbacks from the cloud.
The proxy can be restored at any time. Run the proxy installer on the new machine, sign in with your school admin account and choose Replace for the old proxy.
Yes. Once a system is downloaded to the local cache on each student PC, it boots from the local drive. Classes continue with no internet and with the teacher PC turned off. Remote management pauses until the connection returns, then settings sync automatically.
No. Images stay at your school: one copy on the teacher PC proxy and one in the local cache of each student PC. The cloud only stores configuration such as groups, computers and boot menus, plus status information.
Yes. Create a differencing disk on top of a base system to install new software. After you confirm the update, other computers download only the blocks that changed instead of the whole disk. Every version gets a version number, and the base system stays untouched so you can roll back.
Yes. A computer can cache several systems, for example one for teaching, one for exams and one for competitions. Students pick one from the boot menu, or admins set a default by group or by computer. Each system has its own restore or keep-changes setting.
Yes. Windows and Linux distributions such as Ubuntu, on x86 and ARM64 hardware, can share the same lab and the same account. Linux computers upload their system with the Linux version of the image upload tool.
vDisk SaaS is an annual subscription billed per computer, with a 1-year minimum. There is no upfront license purchase and no server to purchase. Contact us or your local partner for pricing.
Most labs are up and running the same day. Five steps cover it: sign up, install the proxy on the teacher PC, prepare a system, run the first download on student PCs, and manage from the cloud. School IT staff can do it themselves, and we or our partners can help remotely if needed.
One account covers the whole school. Each lab uses its teacher PC as a proxy, and every proxy connects to the same cloud account, so you can view and act by school, lab and group in one browser tab. To reuse a system image in another lab, drag it to that lab's proxy in the console.
